Message from organizers: “The LA/OC Collaboration In Teacher Education Regional Meeting scheduled on April 3rd will be postponed until the fall. The CSUs and Community Colleges are currently responding to COVID-19 concerns, and as such, all of our stakeholders may not be able to attend. We look forward to coming together in the future and will communicate the new date once established.”
Last year the California Community College Teacher Preparation Programs in collaboration with the California State University Chancellor’s Office, Department of Educator Preparation & Public School Programs released a framework to support and encourage regional communities of practice to expand and diversify the teaching workforce. College leaders from both systems were encouraged to meet regionally and regularly to determine specific actions based on regional priorities and capacity from among the framework’s essential areas for collaboration.
On April 3, 2020 a convening of the Community College Strong Workforce Program Teacher Preparation Partnership and California State Universities in the Orange County and Los Angeles Region will be held to continue putting the collaborative framework into action. This is a rich opportunity as never before to have the LA/OC community colleges and CSU’s come together as a regional community of practice around teacher preparation.
The day will include both information and time to guide our regional community of practice including:
- An overview of Community College and CSU system initiatives including the Governor’s priorities
- Time to Identify our regional priorities
- A focus on barriers to our students
- Time to create a plan to foster and sustain our community of practice that will produce specific actions to increase the numbers and diversity of students who transfer efficiently and the numbers and diversity of candidates prepared for careers in teaching across fields, particularly in high shortage areas such as STEM.
Registration information will be sent in early March.
